Beauty Of The Diamond Amethyst

Amethyst is often called the “royal purple” jewel, and the beautiful rich color of amethyst quartz has made it a popular stone for jewelry. The more desirable colors of this variety of quartz product are come from a diffusion of purple or violet. These colors may sometimes bend toward blue (accentuated by glowing light or daylight) and at other times toward red (improved by incandescent light).

While most people favor darker, deep purples with flashes of red in glowing light, a specific market also exists for the paler, pastel-lavender hues. Lighter substance tends to sell for several dollars less per carat and makes a gorgeous gemstone if well-cut.

Size often not a vital factor for amethyst. Uneven material in a wide range of sizes is readily obtainable. Citrine, a close relation of amethyst, has a far different color. People lean to look for bright, pure yellow citrine, while it can range from very pale yellow to deep orange.
Because of its visual resemblance to topaz, citrine often has been called “topaz quartz” or “madeira topaz,” but you should keep away from these terms. Clearly, valuable topaz is an completely different species of gemstone. Citrine yellows can arise naturally in quartz, but more often effect from the heat treatment of amethyst. Atomic iron impurities in the quartz create the yellow.

Another variety of quartz like ametrine is combines by amethyst and citrine in one gemstone. For many years, people supposed this bicolor stone resulted from treatment. But it just was established to be a completely natural gemstone formed in only one known location in southeastern Bolivia, toward the border with Brazil. Ametrine is growing in fame because of its beauty, accessibility and size range. It is popular with jewel carvers because it comes in larger sizes and is very clean optically.

Today, natural and synthetic amethysts are used in the jewelry manufacturing. Natural and synthetic amethyst look very much similar, even if synthetic material tends to be very regular and repeatable in color. The color of synthetic materials tends to be fairly rich and deep, natural amethyst can have deep color too, but these fine stones are rarer.
